thanks for the good time I had in Malaysia, you have been a great host! Yes, next time I’ll plan at least an extra two days to go diving in the East, your hometown (Saba?). And I promise, next time I’ll play something romantic, had it with these tricky Haydn Concerti…
I just went diving four days ago, had a free day in Tenerife, and it was glorious, so beautiful, I really missed it (had been 8 months since the last time).

Take care and best of luck,
Alban

Hi Thomas – I am actually on my way to Düsseldorf for my first rehearsal with lisa and the orchestra – I am very much looking forward to it as well, she is an amazing violinist!
Enjoy!

Sincerely

Thomas

P.S.: I really look forward to Brahms double concerto in Düsseldorf!!!

Hope you are doing well after your journey in Asia. I know it has been an experience that will always be remembered, but we do hope you’ll never give up to play for us next time. Perhaps you’ll play something romantic, as most Asians loves it most.. 🙂
I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed your stay in Malaysia and indeed looking forward to see you in our hall again. Islands, diving? 🙂

Well, that’s for now Alban.. I hope to even see your concerts abroad some day!! I will.. 🙂 It has been a pleasure knowing such a humble great musician like you.

May music keep us together as one..
Take care & keep in touch.

Tini

Just got back from the South of France where my friend Paul who actually lives in San Francisco right now celebrated his 50th birthday together with many other friends, some came all the way from your city, rather impressive…

Hi Thomas, no, I haven’t played the Shostakovich version, but I heard it – I think it’s more or less the same cello part, it just sounds a bit different instrumentation-wise, interesting but not really necessary. There is a recording by a Russian cellist (Yvashkin or so), but I wasn’t really fully convinced by it, which might be Shostakovich’s fault…

All best,

Alban

Have you ever played the Schumann concerto with the instrumentation of Shostakovich? I discovered it in the catalouge of Shostakovich works and didn’t find any recording or concert to go to. Maybe that would be a project for future :-)?

Sincerely
Thomas

I won’t go alone though..It’s sometimes hard to enjoy being somewhere really special when you have serious business to take care of..I continue to admire your work ethic..it is necessary of course when you must perform as you do..I am doing the Rutter Requiem (ensemble version) this weekend. 3/4 of the second movement is all solo cello…it’s gorgeous stuff. I hate to listen to myself on recordings! I rarely hear anything good..isn’t that weird..I look forward to the next time you are in the Bay Area or somewhat close by as I would like to perhaps get together if it works out…Best Regards
